A
new FDA approved laser for the reduction of wrinkles around the eyes with
absolutely no down time is now available in the United States (as of
November 1, 2000).
It preserves the epidermis or outside layer of the skin and focuses
its energy to the capillaries or smallest blood vessels of the dermis of
the skin.
This controlled heating of the capillaries causes them to respond by
making new collagen.
The collagen thickens thereby reducing the depth of the wrinkle.
When
combined with a series of microdermabrasions to smooth the epidermis, a
smoother less wrinkled look can be accomplished.
Studies are on going about its usefulness in other facial wrinkles,
acne scars and even lip augmentations.
